Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls (Picture 1)

Victoria Falls, also known as the Mosi Otunia Falls, is located in the middle of the Zambezi River in Africa, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is more than 1,700 meters (5,500 feet) wide and 108 meters (355 feet) high. It is one of the world famous waterfall wonders. The European explorer, David Livingstone, discovered it on the road in 1855 and named it after the Queen of England. Victoria Falls was listed on the World Heritage List in 1989. Victoria Falls National Park and Livingstone Hunting Park form a waterfall area. The waterfall area has become a famous tourist destination in Africa.

Victoria Falls is twice as wide and taller than Niagara Falls. The average flow rate is about 935m3/s. The vast Zambezi River flows soothingly over the wide and shallow basalt river bed before it reaches the waterfall, and then suddenly falls from a steep cliff about 50 meters into a deep canyon. The main waterfall was divided into several strands by the river rock island, and the waves splashed up to 300 meters, which is far from 65 kilometers away. When the new moon rises, the misty rainbow is reflected in the mist, and the scenery is very charming. The waterfall sounds like thunder, and the local Kalolo-Lozi residents call it “Mosi-oa-tunya”, which means “the fog of mist”. According to research, as far back as 90 AD, a small number of agricultural population settled on both sides of the Zambezi River. Most of the aborigines lived on fishing and hunting within a radius of 128 km from the waterfall.

Watch the Great Falls, starting from Lusaka, by car or by plane. Take a cruise on the upper reaches of the Great Falls-the Zambezi River. The outline of the waterfall can be seen from the upstream. The Zambezi River is the fourth longest river in Africa, flowing from west to east, Zimbabwe on the south and Zambia on the north. The river is wide, but the water is gentle. There is a small island in the river, and a group of elephants on the island can be seen with a telescope. Suddenly I heard the sound of the rumble, apparently the yacht was close to the waterfall. During the flood season, when you open a few miles or even dozens of miles, you can see the rising water column that the waterfall ignited. A group of continually rushing upwards and drifting away among the blue sky and white clouds. The local called the waterfall "Moxi Otunia", meaning "the thunder of smoke." After watching the waterfall, you can go to the craft village on the waterfall to experience another taste. Here you can see the traditional African life, as well as the culture and art of six different tribes in Zimbabwe. The craftsmen in the village use it. A variety of different woods are carved into beautiful animals, and women also weave delicate boxes of various sizes.
